L.A. Winds

The news weather report said that Los Angeles was going to have hurricane force winds and they weren't kidding! When the wind started on Wednesday night, I was startled but I didn't get scared until the power went out. The wind got louder and so did the sound of branches falling in my front yard. It was pitch black outside. My nephew got some candles and we were hanging out in the living room. Everybody else in the house was asleep except for us and my friend Richard. It was his idea to have some drinks to calm down.

We started drinking and brought out acoustic guitars and hung out. My neighbor drove up and we went outside to help him move branches and other stuff junk that flew into his driveway. We had a couple of more drinks and then fell asleep. When I woke up, the power was still out. We called SC Edison and the power wasn't going to be up anytime soon. The good thing about the wind was that it blew all the smog away. We wanted to prepare in case we weren't going to have lights for the evening, so we tried to get some more candles and flashlights.

Trees knocked down everywhere. I thought the branches on my street were bad but trees had fallen; the wind tore them out of the ground (roots & all). Some street signs and the market sign by my house. Most stores in my area were closed.

I went to the 99cents store in Pasadena and everybody else probably had the same idea because the line was huge. In the store, the shelves where the candles were, were empty. They were out batteries, flashlights, matches, lighters, and candles. It was a bit chaotic but I'm glad that there wasn't major damage to my home. Our power went on later that night. There were some areas that didn't have power until today. It's good to have an emergency kit handy.

BE PREPARED: BECAUSE WE MUST!

I Kissed A Girl (Gleek)

I'm a girl that likes girls. I, like many other lesbians/bi-sexual females, get excited when we get to see girly action. Not the "girly action" that lets homophobic guys tolerate two girls together. I'm talking about girls and them having crushes on other girl friends, having girlfriends, relationships, flirting, kissing, holding hands, being in love, etc. The film and television industry has come a long way! To see these actions on the big screen, films, TV shows, and talk shows is very exciting. Over the past decade, there has been more LGBT characters in movies and on TV. I want to thank the glee staff/writers/producers/directors/actors for representing!

"I love girls the way I'm supposed to feel about boys." - Santana

Drunken Red State

I didn't catch the film RED STATE when it was on tour. I finally got it in the mail from netflix and was going to make a movie night out of it. I invited a couple of friends over and we just had to get our drink on. We were drinking beers but I thought it would be fun to take shots. Knowing that the film was based around a religious cult, I knew homosexuality would come up somehow. So the drinking game was made. We had to take a shot when we heard the word, "Gay." We took several and got drunk. The word was actually thrown around more in the beginning of the film. I ended up passing out and had to finish the movie the next day. So I drunk tweetetd Kevin Smith the game and saw that he favorited my tweet =). I was so happy!

And The Drums

The drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, oh!

I just love GREAT DJ by The Ting Tings; just as much as I love drummers. Okay, so it's no surprise that I'm a total GLEEK! Last April, my niece and I were in San Francisco looking at colleges and it just so happened that Bonnie Dune (Cory Monteith's new band) was performing. We went and it was a fun show!

I make little guitar pick necklaces for people I admire. That being said, I wanted to do something a little different for a cool drummer boy. I got a drum key and inscribed Cory's name on one side, and a star on the other. I then attached it to a key ring, with a chain for clipping on pants and easy access. Cory totally loved it and the band members said that he is always looking for a key. That was so cool because I gave him a gift that he would actually use.

A few months later, Cory tweeted about the drum key! That was just AWESOME!

Kristin Chenoweth @ The Grove

On September 21st, The Grove welcomed Kristin Chenoweth to promote her new album Some Lessons Learned with a live performance filmed for Extra.
"What Would Dolly Do"
"Fathers and Daughters"
"I want Somebody (Bitch About)"
"It's part of the art of creating something new" -Kristin Chenoweth
Barnes and Noble sold the CD, giving you a wristband to meet Kristin, after her performance, for a CD signing. We waited in line for a bit because she was doing interviews. It was worth the wait.
After the small set, I got in line to get my cd autographed. There was this teenage girl and her dad behind me and she told her father that Kristin sang that song "Fathers and Daughters" for them. How adorable!
Even though, prior to the signing, the staff went around saying there would be no posing photos, Kristin still took photos with fans. She is so sweet! I was happy to meet her and finally give her the glee necklace I made for her.

F A S H I O N

Super HOT cover of David Bowie's FASHION! Glee covered it to promote FNO (Fashion Night Out). It premiered a couple of weeks ago. Last night was the big night. The majority of events were in New York but L.A. had some too. Not a big fashion person so I don't really know much on the subject. Yesterday and today, that's what is trending: #FNO.
Heard about all the events/parties and seen photos...I wish I was in NY this week.

GLEE Sing Along

Glee took over Santa Monica High School, again (1st screening), on 8/15/2011.
I didn't know what to expect, since this was the first annual sing along. When we arrived to the school, they gave us a program, popcorn & water. It wasn't as crowded as I expected. We got some seats and waited to sing some songs.
There were several GLEEKS there to introduce the songs.
Kevin McHale, Harry Shum Jr., Ashley Fink, & Dante Di Loreto.

Kristin Chenoweth

Mike O'Malley, Chris Colfer, Kristin Chenoweth, & Dot Marie Jones

After the songs were done, Kristin Dos Santos came out on stage and did a Q&A with Dante Di Loreto, Dot-Marie Jones, JANE LYNCH, Chris Colfer, Robert Ulrich (Casting Director), and Mike O'Malley.
Congratulations on the many Emmy Nominations GLEE!

TGP - Don't Stop Believin'

The Glee Project ended with a big surprise! First off I just want to say that this reality show was incredible; I'm not being biased because I'm a gleek. This reality competition show went above & beyond and was truly original.
I salute the creators, directors, producers, engineers, crew, and all involved in the making of THE GLEE PROJECT!
GLEE-ality. It was great seeing the whole cast in the season finale. Nerd alert spoiler because I saw the RAISE YOUR GLASS video before the episode. Finally they got to sing Don't Stop Believin' - the signature glee song. Once Ryan Murphy brought out the rest of the contestants to help out with the song, there was a whole energy change in the room. It was an amazingly fun performance. It was also great to see Ryan smile! It made me smile.
It really was a hard decision to make. I felt that all of them should have been on glee, even if it was for one episode, in the background or whatever. Not just the final four but all 12 should at least get a cameo. The final four: Alex, Damian, Lindsay, & Samuel are all so talented and their last chance performances were amazing. I guess the decision was difficult for Ryan as well because there were 2 winners: Samuel Larsen & Damian McGinty both won 7 episodes on glee! If that wasn't enough of a shocking surprise, they also gave runners-up Alex Newell & Lindsay Pearce each 2 episodes on glee. Congratulations!!! RAISE YOUR GLASS to all winners in THE GLEE PROJECT!

Congratulations to the 12 contestants that made it onto the show. Unfortunately you did not win a role on glee but you won out of thousands to get this opportunity. I wish you luck in the future and hope your dreams come true.

Bridget's Party (Gig)

Congratulations to my niece Bridget! She got a partial scholarship to attend NDNU. She graduated in May and this was a combination (graduation + leaving to college) party. There were so many people! Good food, drinks, family, & friends. We had a DJ but we also wanted to play a couple of songs. We hadn't performed in a long time but it was worth the effort to perform for my niece.
BENNER has been in limbo but this seemed like an appropriate time to come out of hibernation. We had 2 short practices and I can't believe that I had to relearn my basslines. We have over 10 songs but we just focused on 4.

COFFEE CART GIRL
YOU
SHAMPAIN
WATCHING YOU PLAY
The first song was an epic fail; we started it and stopped after 15 seconds, then started from the beginning and Dominic & I both got lost at the bridge, after a couple of embarrassing chuckles, we just continued to the ending chorus. The next 3 songs were great. Minus that little hiccup in the beginning, the set went well.
A little speech from the parents and then onto The PBs set. A little playlist of cover songs for my niece. It was a family affair. My bestfriend Ernest on guitar, Me on bass, my nephew Joseph on drums, my niece Kristeena (making her debut) on vox, and my other friend Rich on vocals. We worked with what we had and i'm confident enough to say that the songs came close to sounding similar to the originals.
Last Friday Night was a fun song to start off the set. Now this wasn't planned but my other 3 nieces ended up singing along for the chants: T-G-I-F and the yelling and that actually came out awesome!
Here Comes Your Man
Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance
Raise Your Glass
The songs we picked were pretty easy and repetitive except for Here Comes Your Man. It wasn't my best performance but everybody seemed to like it. Raise Your Glass was a crowd pleaser and it seemed to get everybody hyped. After the set, the DJ started spinning and was playing until the end of the night.

What's The Deelio?

The most talked about video of the summer is "Our Deal" by Best Coast, directed by Drew Barrymore. Starring the beautiful Chloe Moretz! An amazing talented young actress. I met her at the I Am Number Four premiere and started following her on twitter. She is so adorable!
Great song and the video is amazing! See if you can spot a couple of cameos. After you watch this video, it will be stuck in your mind. Well directed and very clever.

West Side Story meets The Warriors in the City of Angels:

It's the type of video that you can watch over & over again. Now, you can see the EXTENDED video version (10 minutes).

The Voice Tour

With the success of their first season, a tour was set up with the 8 semi-finalists of NBC's The Voice. The contestants kicked off their tour in Hollywood at The Gibson Amphitheatre.

Beverly McClellan

Casey Weston

Dia Frampton

Frenchie Davis

Javier Colon

Nakia

Vicci Martinez

Xenia

I really loved how all the contestants collaborated & joined one another on stage. It was like a big family; a big talented rockin' family. They performed their hit performances from the tv series and the final 4 performed their original songs.

Only in L.A.? There was a surprise guest...Blake Shelton joined Dia on stage and sang Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down" with an exchange of friendly push/shove.

Thank you so much to Socialite Life! I won tickets to the show, via twitter. My Brother & I had an amazing time!
